(Zone 6) An excellent upright cultivar that naturally grows with a narrow, fastigiate form to 7-8’ tall and 2-3’ wide. The deep glossy green foliage adds so much to this shrub.
Buxus sempervirens 'Elegantissima'
(Zone 6) A slower growing, cream edged boxwood that is very showy year round. Benefits from protection against intense sun and winter winds. Grows 3-5′ tall and 3-4′ wide.
Buxus sempervirens 'Graham Blandy'
(Zone 5) Unusual boxwood with a very columnar growth habit, growing to 8-10’ tall with only a 2’ width. A great choice for a specimen planting or screening with a row of plants.

Buxus sempervirens 'Marginata'
(Zone 6) A broadleaf evergreen producing olive leaves edged in cream and butter yellow. The small glossy oval leaves are highly ornamental and remain olive green throughout the winter. It’s a dense multi-stemmed shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth. Slow growing to about 4 feet tall and wide at maturity.

(Zone 5) A dense, compact, many-branched, broad, mounded evergreen shrub. Slow annual growth (to 1.5″ per year). Typically grown as a 2-3′ tall shrub with a larger spread.

Cephalotaxus
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Drupacea'
(Zone 6) An excellent deer resistant conifer for part-sunny to shady locations. Its slow growth rate allows shaping and management at a height less than its mature stature without becoming woody and appearing Òtopped’. It maintains well at 4-5 feet tall. The texture is soft and dark green. It prefers low to moderate moisture but will not tolerate wet feet.
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Duke Gardens'
(Zone 6) is a compact version, 2-4’ tall and wide, that typically matures in a vase-shaped form to 2-3′ tall. It is an excellent accent plant for shaded areas of the landscape.
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Fastigiata'
(Zone 6) An upright columnar form that matures to 8-10′ tall and to 3-5’ wide. Yew-like blackish-green leaves (to 2″ long) are spirally arranged giving it a bottlebrush-like appearance. They show good deer resistance and when established, tolerate drought and heat well.

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana LAKE ERIE BLUE
(Zone 5) An upright, pyramidal form with finely textured, lacy steel-blue foliage that holds its color year round. Grows 12-15′ tall x 5′ wide.
Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Glauca Pendula '
(Zone 4) A slender, pyramidal, strongly weeping form that may grow to as much as 30? tall and 14? wide over 35 years, but is often seen growing much smaller. It is an excellent specimen tree that features a nodding central leader with widely-spaced ascending to arching to horizontal branches from which droop branchlets clad with flattened sprays of scale-like blue-green leaves

(Zone 4) Distinct specimen. Upward, curving branches. Interesting weeping foliage. Very hardy. Grows 20-35′ tall x 8-12′ wide.

(Zone 4) Golden Hinoki – Bright golden, fern-like foliage on this upright Hinoki Cypress. Grows 8-10’ tall x 4-5’ wide.

Cryptomeria
Cryptomeria japonica 'Yoshino'
(Zone 5) A symmetrical, pyramidal form that typically matures to 30-40′ tall and to 20-30′ wide. Lime-green to blue-green needles are evergreen. In comparison to the species, ‘Yoshino’ grows faster and its needles acquire fewer bronze tones in winter.
Ilex
Ilex x aquipernyi 'Meschick' DRAGON LADY
(Zone 6) A female cultivar with an upright, symmetrical, very narrow pyramid form, eventually maturing to 10-20’ tall and 4-6’ wide. Spiny, evergreen, dark green leaves are attractive year round. Blue Stallion’ and Blue Prince’ are reportedly good pollinators. Scarlet fruits mature in fall and remain on the plant through winter.
Ilex crenata 'Sky Pencil'
(Zone 6) An exceedingly narrow, fastigiate form which grows somewhat slowly in a vertical, pencil-like column to 10′ tall but only 2-3′ wide that maintains columnar shape without pruning. Sky Pencil’ is an all-female cultivar which needs a male pollinator in order to produce fruit.
Ilex glabra 'Shamrock'
(Zone 4) A compact rounded cultivar that grows 3-4′ tall and suckers less than the species. If pollinated, female flowers give way to pea-sized, jet black, berry-like drupes which mature in early fall and persist throughout winter to early spring unless consumed by local bird populations.
Ilex glabra 'Densa'
(Zone 4) Upright branches are covered with leathery, dark green leaves. Black, berry-like fruit is produced fall through spring. Withstands heavy pruning quite well. Thrives in moist soils and is shade tolerant. Grows 8-10’ tall and wide.

(Zone 5) A great alternative to boxwood, this native evergreen naturally grows as a broadly rounded mound, and keeps its leaves all the way to the ground for the lush, dense look you love. It can be pruned or shaped as you desire, or left to attain its neat natural shape. It’s also much faster growing than boxwood, and offers good deer resistance, too. Grows 2-3’ tall and wide.
Ilex meserveae 'Blue Prince'
(Zone 5) Typically matures to 8-12’ tall. It is a dense shrub featuring purplish stems and dark blue-green leaves with spiny-toothed margins. Tiny greenish-white flowers on this male plant are relatively inconspicuous, but produce abundant amounts of pollen over a long spring bloom period thus making it an excellent pollinator for a number of female holly cultivars.

(Zone 5) Typically matures to 8-12’ tall. It is a dense shrub featuring purplish stems and dark blue-green leaves with spiny-toothed margins. Tiny greenish-white flowers on this plant are relatively inconspicuous. Fertilized female flowers give way to abundant, dark red fruit which typically persists through most if not all of winter.

Juniperus
Juniperus chinensis 'Gold Coast'
(Zone 4) Golden yellow foliage with a compact, mounded form at 2-3′ tall and 3-4′ wide.
Juniperus scopulorum 'Skyrocket'
(Zone 4) A tall and extremely narrow, columnar growth habit. Its short, compact, silvery blue foliage is evergreen with virtually no change from season to season. Grows 15-20′ tall x 2-3′ wide.
Juniperus chinensis 'Sea Green'
(Zone 4) This juniper cultivar is a compact, evergreen shrub with a fountain-like, arching habit. Typically grows 4-6′ high and to 8′ wide. Features dark green foliage (may turn darker in winter) which is attractive year-round.
Juniperus conferta 'Blue Pacific'
(Zone 5) A trailing, lower growing cultivar that typically grows to at most 12’ tall. Aromatic blue-green needles appear in groups of three. It is noted for having better blue foliage color, better ground cover form, denser foliage along the branches and better resistance to winter injury.
Juniperus chinensis 'Saybrook Gold'
(Zone 4) The golden-yellow foliage is slightly pendulous on this wide spreading juniper. This plant is particularly resistant to damage by deer. Grows 3-4′ tall x 6-7′ wide.
Juniperus chinensis 'Hetz Columnaris'
(Zone 3) Fast growing, tolerates drought and poor soils and is disease resistant. Matures to 15′ tall and 3-5′ wide.

Juniperus horizontalis 'Wiltoni'
(Zone 4) A female cultivar noted for its excellent, dense, prostrate form, typically growing to 4-6’ tall and spreading to 6-8’ wide. It features silver blue foliage that acquires purple tones in winter.
Juniperus procumbens 'Nana'
(Zone 4) Commonly called Japanese garden juniper, ÔNana’ is a dwarf form that features spiny-pointed blue-green needles. It typically grows 8-12’ tall and spreads to 6’ wide over time.
Juniperus sabina 'Buffalo'
(Zone 4) Soft, feathery, bright green foliage on low spreading branches that produces an interesting form. It has a height of 12-15″ and a spread of 5 feet.
Juniperus scopulorum 'Blue Arrow'
(Zone 3) Tight, columnar habit similar to ‘Skyrocket’ but with a more intense blue color. Moderate growing to 12- 15’ tall x 2’ wide.

(Zone 3) A dense conical pyramidal juniper with intense bluish-gray-green foliage that holds its color through winter with very minimal bronzing. Grows 15-18′ tall x 5-6′ wide.
Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star'
(Zone 4) This cultivar is a slow-growing, dwarf evergreen shrub with a low-mounded, hemispherical habit. Typically grows to only 1 foot tall after 5 years, but eventually matures over time to 2-3′ high. Features awl-shaped, silver blue foliage which is attractive year-round.

(Zone 4) This cultivar is a broad, slow-growing, evergreen shrub with a compact, wide-spreading habit which typically grows up to 3′ tall (infrequently larger) and to 6′ wide. Features scale-like, silver gray foliage and is a heavy berry producer.

(Zone 4) A narrow pyramidal to columnar tree that grows to 15-20′ tall but spreads to only 5′ wide. Dark green foliage is primarily scale-like. Foliage is attractive throughout the year.
Juniperus communis 'Gold Cone'
(Zone 5) An upright, narrow, columnar, evergreen shrub which features golden new growth foliage. Golden foliage gradually fades to bluish-green in winter. It’s slow-growing (3-6″ per year) typically reaching a size of 3-5′ after 10 years.

(Zone 3) Neat, flat-topped form with showy, dense, rich silvery-blue foliage. Tolerates heat and drought. Matures to 5’ tall x 7-12’ wide.

(Zone 4) A compact, conical, male form that grows slowly, 6-12’ per year, to 10-15’ tall, but may eventually reach 15-30’ tall. It is noted for its blue or blue-gray foliage that retains good color all year.

(Zone 3) Unique is an understatement when it comes to this plant. No two are alike! A spreading and arching selection with an irregular, erratic branching pattern makes an outstanding large accent plant in time. Needles turn golden yellow in autumn before dropping and revealing it’s unusual Òbone structure’ during the winter months.
Larix laricina
(Zone 2) Commonly called tamarack, eastern larch or American larch. A deciduous conifer whose green needles turn a showy yellow in fall before falling to the ground as winter approaches. Typically grows to 40-60′ tall with an open pyramidal shape and horizontal branching. Slender green needles grow in brush-like clusters which appear at the ends of short spur-like shoots spaced along the branches. Rounded cones (to 1’) mature to brown. Bark on mature trees is a scaly, reddish-brown.

(Zone 5) Commonly called Dawn Redwood; a deciduous, conifer that grows in a conical shape to 100’ tall. Bark on mature trees is often deeply fissured. It features linear, feathery, fern-like foliage and is soft to the touch. Foliage emerges light green in spring, matures to deep green in summer and turns red-bronze in fall. Trees are monoecious, producing oval, light brown female cones (3/4″ long) and pendant globose male cones (1/2″ long). The twigs, needles and cone scales are in opposite pairs.

(Zone 3) Commonly called Siberian Cypress or Russian arborvitae, a dwarf, evergreen conifer that forms a shrubby ground cover to 8-12’ tall with indefinitely spreading stems, as much as 10-12’. Feathery, soft-textured, scale like foliage is arranged in flat, fan-like sprays reminiscent of arborvitae (Thuja). Foliage is bright green in summer changing to bronze-purple in fall and winter. Fruits are tiny, spherical, berry-like cones (to ? diameter) with woody-like scales. Prefers afternoon shade in hot / humid locations.

(Zone 2) This new selection has superior disease resistance and winter color. Its green foliage turns an attractive russet color in winter. This is an excellent, very cold-hardy plant with better shade tolerance than junipers. Grows 1-2’ tall and spreads 4-5’.

(Zone 2) Norway Spruce – A large pyramidal evergreen conifer typically matures to 40-60′ tall. It is noted for its rapid growth. Primary branches are slightly upturned but secondary branches become pendulous as the tree matures.

(Zone 3) Birdsnest spruce – A slow-growing dwarf cultivar that typically grows to only 1-2’ tall and 3-4’ wide over the first 10 years. It features spreading, horizontal to slightly ascending branches which form a dense, broad-rounded, shrubby, flattened globe.
Picea glauca 'Conica'
(Zone 3) Dwarf Alberta spruce – A dense, con-shaped, semi-dwarf to dwarf shrub form with soft bright green foliage. It can mature over a number of years to 10-13′ tall. Growth rate is 2-4″ per year. Needles (to 1/2″ long) are aromatic when crushed.

(Zone 2) Dark blue-green needles on this conical evergreen. Fast growing to the height of 40ft and width of 8ft.
Picea omorika
(Zone 4) Serbian spruce – A narrow, pyramidal, spire-like tree with pendant branches that ascend at the tips. Flattened bright green needles have silvery undersides. Brown bark cracks into scaly plates. Pendant cones (to 2 1/2″ long) emerge violet purple but mature to yellowish brown. Typically grows to 50-60′ tall in cultivation.

Pinus densiflora 'Burke's Red Variegated'
(Zone 4) Bright green needles with yellow bands showcase this variegated Japanese red pine with bands becoming even more vibrant in summer and then near white with age. Vigorous and easy to grow compared to other variegated forms, this Òdragon eye’ pine tolerates diverse site conditions and doesn’t burn in winter. Matures to 20-30’ and develops an irregular but majestic form with orange-red exfoliating bark.

(Zone 3) Evergreen Nursery’s mugo variety. ENCI is a heavily branched, low mounded strain with short dark green needles. Grows 3-5′ tall 4-6′ wide.
Pinus parviflora 'Glauca'
(Zone 5) Japanese White Pine – Asymmetrical and open growth habit with whorls of curved, bluish needles have silver striations. Makes a beautiful specimen.
Pinus strobus
(Zone 3) Eastern White Pine – Although this native evergreen is pyramidal in its early years, it matures to a broad oval habit with an irregular crown. Typically grows 50-80′ in cultivation. Bluish green needles (to 5″ long) are soft to the touch and appear in bundles of five.
Pinus strobus 'Pendula'
(Zone 3) A weeping form of Eastern White Pine that requires staking for vertical growth. Mature specimens take on unique characteristics with soft flowing needle and branch habit.
Pinus sylvestris
(Zone 3) Scots pine is a fast-growing, conical to columnar, medium sized conifer with distinctive flaking orange/red-brown bark. It typically grows 30-60’ tall in cultivation.

Taxus x media 'Dark Green'
(Zone 4) A dense, low, spreading shrub. It is highly resistant to needle burn and tolerates shearing well. Grows 3-4’ tall x 4-6’ wide.

(Zone 4) A dwarf, slow-growing, evergreen shrub with an upright, pyramidal habit. Features twisted, scale-like, medium green foliage. Can reach 15-20′ tall and 4-5′ wide in 15-20 years.

(Zone 4) Broad form with coarse, dark green foliage with yellow tips turning bronze in the winter. Grows 10-15’ tall x 4-5’ wide.

Thuja plicata x standishii 'Virginian'™
(Zone 5) This sport of the Green Giant arborvitae grows as fast as Green Giant, just not as tall or wide – about 14Ú’ high x 6Ú’ wide after 10 years. Foliage is full, dense, soft and feathery to the touch. Extremely tolerant of cold as well as heat and humidity. Price includes .90¢ royalty.

Tsuga canadensis
(Zone 3) Dark green lacy foliage with two blue-white bands on underside and pendulous branching. Best sited in part shade in sheltered locations protected from strong drying winds and hot afternoon sun. Slow growing to 40-70’.
